02Common questions
What happens if my piece doesn't sell?
Reserves are set together with the specialist during appraisal. If it doesn't clear the reserve, we ship it back at no cost — or leave it in the next themed sale. You never pay for a failed lot.
Which auction houses do you work with?
We're finalizing partnerships with Wright, Rago/Toomey, LAMA, and Bonhams Skinner for design and decorative art. Fine art and jewelry categories add specialists as we scale.
What if I want to keep the piece?
The appraisal is yours — use it for insurance, estate planning, or just to know. Consigning is optional at every step.

02Reseller questions
Why auction over my own 1stDibs listing?
On design pieces above $3k, our modeling shows a 12–18% net lift after all fees vs. 1stDibs — mostly because auction competition beats fixed price and there's zero listing labor. Not every SKU wins here; the app flags which ones do.
How does the fee stack up?
Goodeye takes 10% flat on hammer as the founding Pro rate. That covers appraisal, house routing, and pickup. The house takes their standard seller's commission on top (typically 15–20%). No listing fees, photography fees, or storage fees.
What if the piece doesn't clear reserve?
It comes back to you at no cost. We only earn if you earn. You can also opt to leave it in the next themed sale at a lower reserve.

02Estate questions
Do I lose sale-day revenue by pulling pieces?
Estate firms partner with Goodeye on a revenue-share basis. You get a cut of every hero piece that clears at auction — usually multiples of what the item would have made on sale day — without any labor from your team.
How do we pick which pieces go to auction?
Goodeye's per-item read flags anything with an auction-worthy estimate above $2,500. The family (or executor) reviews the shortlist and approves before anything leaves the house.
What about probate + IRS 706 documentation?
Every consigned piece comes with a USPAP-compliant appraisal signed by an accredited appraiser — accepted by probate courts and the IRS. You keep the report even if the family pulls the piece before auction.
